AhlulBayt News Agency: Malaysia has condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as a reflection of "indifference and double standards" toward the plight of the Palestinian people.
Speaking at the opening of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan criticized Israel’s intensified military campaign, which has resulted in nearly 54,000 deaths, mostly among women and children, since October 2023.
“These atrocities are a direct consequence of the erosion of international law’s sanctity,” Hasan stated, calling for urgent global action to address the humanitarian crisis.
According to Mehr, he further warned that Israel’s total siege of Gaza is leading to mass starvation and increasing civilian casualties, stressing that the ongoing crisis underscores a broader pattern of indifference toward Palestinian suffering.
"ASEAN cannot remain silent. We have a voice in world affairs, and we must use it to advocate for the oppressed and propose solutions based on principles and international law," the foreign minister said.
The remarks come as ASEAN foreign ministers reaffirmed their longstanding support for Palestinian rights during a February meeting, pledging continued diplomatic efforts to address the conflict.
